Bachelors At Premium, Survey Finds WASHINGTON I No wonder single girls suspect there is a shortage of available young bach elors. It's true. The Census Bureau went into the problem Saturday, analyzing fcst year's supply of "eligible" civilian males as against the num ber of young women of marrying age. For statistical purposes, the bu reau called females of 18 through 24 years "eligible." Males were rated eligible at 21 through 27, because men are generally about 3 years older than women at their first marriage. After eliminating servicemen living in barracks in this country and in overseas posts, the bureau turned up these comparisons: Thers were only 61 eligible civ ilian males in the 21-22 age group for every 100 girls of 18 and 19 last , year. There were 89 of such males per 100 girls in 4950, but then the draft bit into the supply. Things were better but not per fect for the single women aged 20 through 24. In that age group there was .94 of a man of 23-27 years for every woman. Back in 1950 there were 1.05 men, mean ing a man for every girl and 1-20 of a man left over. From 25 on up to age 35. the bachelor girl finds a better chance, statistically speaking. There are 115 single civilian men for every 100 women at that stage, but the bureau does not appraise the males' willingness to wed. F. N. Hoblitt Rites Planned At Silverton SILVERTON Funeral serv ices for Frederick N. Hoblitt, 36, who was killed early Saturday when his car smashed into a Greyhound bus just north of Canby, will be held' from the Memorial Chapel of the Ek man Funeral Home later this week. Burial will be in Willamette Na tional Cemetery, Portland. Hoblitt, who had flown to Port land from San Francisco where he lives, had rented a car at the Portland Airport and was on his way to see his mother, Mrs. John T. Hoblitt at Silverton when the accident occurred.
