San Jose
-Announcements have been re
ceived by Salens friends this week
from San Jose, Calif, telling of
the marriage of former Salem
residents, Miss Grace Irene Co
vert and Donald Hicks Ewing,
which wu quietly solemnized on
Saturday, August 13.
The bridge is the daughter of
Lon S. Covert of Salem and the
late Mrs. "Covert. Mr. Covert went
south for his daughter's wedding.
Mr. Ewing is the son of Mrs.
Audrey Ewing of Salem.
The -ceremony took place at
Trinity Episcopal Church in San
Joes with a longtime friend of
the couple, the Rev. Clyde Ever
ton, assistant pastor of the
church, officiating.
- After a wedding trip the newly
weds will be at home in San Fran
cisco at 808 Corbett Avenue.
The new Mrs. Ewing is a gradu
ate of Salem Schools and Wil
lamette University. She has been
living in San Francisco for sev
eral -years, where she has . been
employed. Mr. Ewing attended
Salem Schools and Willamette
University.
He has been studying' for his
doctorate degree at the Universi
ty of California at Berkley and
this fall will be teaching in one
of the San Francisco high schools.

gates to the 10th Western Region
al convention of Business and
Profressional Women to be held
in Salt Lake City, Utah August
26-30 is Miss Laura York of Med
ford, state president, who will
leave by plane August 25.
Also an official delegate is Miss
Fern Trull, Grants Pass, junior
past president, who has just at
tended the International BPW
Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mrs. Cecelia Galey, Sweet
Home, a member of the national
legislative steering committee
and a past state president, will
be the speaker at a luncheon
sponsored by the Oregon, Wash
ington and Montana federations
Thursday, August 27 at the Hotel
Utah.. Mrs. Galey has been
nominated by Oregon for a na
tional vice presidency. Oregon
chairman for the luncheon is
Mrs. Helen Chase, Eugene.
The national president. Miss
Helen Irpin, Des Moines, Iowa,
will address a formal banquet to
be held Saturday, August 29.

been announced for September.
Miss Ida Antoinette Obert, daugh
ter of Mrs. Martha Obert of Santa
Barbara, Calif., and Robert Earl
Canfield, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Canfield of Salem, will be
married on September 5 at the
Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa
Barbara at 8 o'clock. '

The bridegroom-elect's parents
will go south for the rites as will
his brother-in-law and sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Wilbur Pearson. Mrs.
Pearson will be the matron of
honor and Mr. Pearson will serve
as best man for Mr. Canfield.
The couple will make their
home in Salem after a wedding
trip. Mr. Canfield was released
from the army this spring after
two years of service. He is a
graduate of Salem Schools and
his fiance has been attending the
University of Southern California.
