Stock Market Wary- r, Prices FaU Slightly NEW YORK WV-The stock mar ket stepped along -warily Friday with prices declining slightly. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks lost 30 cents, the same as Thursday, and stood at $108.50. It was the second decline for the average after six straight ad vances. Railroads were hardest hit with a loss of 50 cents in the- average while the industrial component was down 30 cents, and utilities held unchanged. The list contained 1,039 individu al issues with 315 up and 440 down. Four new highs for the year and 21 new lows were registered. Volume came to 860,000 shares, second lowest this week. It com pares with 910,000 shares traded Thursday. S, Hauge, 92, prominent in Silver ton affairs for many years, died unexpectedly Friday at her home on Adams Street. She had been active Thursday, but became ill during the night She was born Oct 14, 1860 in Michigan and came to the Silver- ton area in 1904. She lived ' for more than 25 years in the Bush Creek area. She was an active member of the Silverton Trinity Lutheran Church. A daughter, Mrs. Ester Weaver of Alhambra, Califs was visiting her at her death. Mrs. Hauge's other daughter, Mrs. Emma Ran dall, also of Alhambra, is expect ed to arrive shortly. Others surviving are two sons, George Hauge, Silverton, and Henry Hauge of Eugene. Her hus band, O. S. Hauge, who was a prominent hop grower, preceded her in death in 1924. A total of 101 carriers and members of the auxiliary (meet ing jointly At the convention) were registered as of Friday evening and more are expected today. All convention meetings are being held at the Marion Ho tel Special recognition went to James A. Remington, Salem, who was the first president of the association when it and the na tional association organized 50 years ago. Other retired Salem carriers included in the long statewide list were O. L. Fisher, Charles Brasher, Ed Tucker and Burt McKay. Honored were three deceased Salem carriers, James Alberts, Frank South and Jess Humphrey. Friday evening's banquet was a Jubilee Supper served family-style with chicken and dumplings heading the menu. Business sessions Friday in cluded a joint session of the as sociation and auxiliary at 3:30 p.m. during which Mayor Alfred Loucks and Postmaster Albert Grage welcomed the convention to Salem. Special guests at the convention include John W. Em eigh, national secretary of Penn sylvania, Mrs. O. S. Johnson, executive committeewoman of Louisiana, and Post Office In spector Harold Young of Salem. Individual sessions of the asso ciation and auxiliary followed for the remainder of the afternoon. Today's first session will be gin at 9 a.m. to be followed by a business meeting at 10:30 and then the regular business ses sion at 1:30 pjn. Inspector Young will address the association on the subject "Rural Service Problems." Other business of the aiternoon win include nomina tion and election of officers and possible selection of next year's convention site.
