NEW YORK ( A recovery
movement Friday in the stock
market was -strong enough to wipe
out most early declines, but it
lacked sufficient vigor to push the
market definitely to the higher
side.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks declined 10 cents at
$110.40. The industrial component
of the average was down 20 cents.
The railroads, however, were un
changed in the average while the
utilities gained 10 cents.
The lower leaning of the market
was shown by the 387 gainers and
418 losers in the list of 1,087 issues
appearing on the tape. The total
was 43 issues less than Thursday.
There were 21 new highs and 39
new lows for the year touched
during the day.

Perjury Case
NEW YORK ") William Perl,

ring.
He faces up to 10 years in prison
and $4,000 in fines.
He was tried on a charge of
lying in 1930 when he denied under
oath he knew the condemned atom
spy, Julius Rosenberg, and four
other persons.

At The Dalles
THE DALLES M The Har
vey Machine Company's 65 million
dollar aluminum plant will be lo
cated at the west city limits of
The Dalles, on the Oregon side of
the Columbia River.
President Leo M. Harvey, Tor
rance. Calif., announced purchase
Friday of a 500-acre site from land
owners. A location on the north
shore, in Washington state, also
had been considered.
. Under an agreement reached
Thursday with the federal govern
ment, construction of the plant is
to start June 24. Completion is
scheduled by May 1, 1955.
Harvey said The Dalles was
chosen because it has excellent
rail, river and highway .transporta
tion facilities and room for future
expansion.
The facilities will consist of a
two-potline reduction plant, with a
capacity of 54,000 tons of alumin
um annually, and an alumina
works to supply the reduction unit.
In January, 1953, the United
States had 23,966,000 head of
milk cows and heifers.
