Texas Towns

tornado battered Helotes, little
community near here, Tuesday
night and another struck Smith
ville, in Central Texas.
Eieht to ten person were report
ed injured at Helotes and three
at Smith ville.
The injured at Helotes were not
believed seriously hurt. Sevn
houses were damaged.
At Smithville, the twister struck
the Leon Smith home. Mrs.' Smith
and her t two sons were injured,
but it was not immediately known
how seriously.
Heavy . rains battered North,
East and Central Texas Tuesday.
Mcrtindale, near San Marcos,
had a reported 10 inch rain. Red
Rock, in the same general Central
Texas area, had 9.
While rain, hale and wind bat
tered a good portion of the state.

Springfield
Man Killed
EUGENE WV Glenn Wilson,
61, of Springfield, Ore., was fatally
Injured Tuesday evening in a three
car smashup here, State Police
reported.
He was a passenger in a car
driven by Carl T. Veltman, Eu
gene, police said. The extent 6
,Veltman's injuries was not immed
iately determined.
Driver of one of the other cars
was Charles A. Mack of Eugenev
police said. They were looking for
the other driver, who disappeared
shortly after -the accident.
Librarians to
Attend Meet
Six state and public librarians
and members of their staffs are
slated to attend the Oregon Lib
rarians Association annual meet
ing to be held in Bend Friday
and Saturday.
To go from Salem will be Miss
Eloise Ebert, administrative as
sistant to the state librarian; Miss
Eleanor Stephens, state librarian,
and members of her staff: Hugh
Morrow, city librarian, and mem
bers of his staff; Miss Marjorie
Chester, library coordinator for
public schools; Miss Isabel Good
nough, Salem High School lib
rarian and Amsley Whitman,
Willamette University librarian.
Whitman is also the vice presi
dent and past president of the
association.
Friday's agenda will include a
county library workshop, public
relations meetings and a banquet
in the evening. Saturday morn
ing will be devoted to a confer
ence and panel discussions will
be held in the afternoon.
Dulles Says More
Money Earmarked
For Indochina Aid
PARIS m Secretary of State
John Foster Dulles told the French
Sunday the United States had ear
marked increased aid for the war
in Indochina but there would be
no more money for French budget
balancing.
This was the summary of an ex
change between the French and
Americans at a conference in the
French Foreign ministry attended
by the top brass of both countries.
The conference was a continua
tion of the explanatory series
which began Saturday as the
NATO meeting ended.
