Central Oregon
G of C Opposes
SchoolBill
PRINEVELLE Uh The Central
Oregon Chamber of Commerce
Tuesday night urged the Legisla
ture to defeat Senate Bill 220. :
Members said they feared It
would run up school costs , at
Madras. . .
At Salem, legislative experts
said, however, that the bill would
not do that. They said it provides
for children who liveon govern
ment property and who attend
school in adjacent distritts to be
counted for distribution of state
basic school fund aid. .
The chamber of commerce had
feared the bill, would put children
from the Warm Springs Indian
Pocorvotinn in the Madras schools
and compel Madras to spend $500,-
000 or more to expana scaoox
facilities. i
Legislative experts said the bill
ntiiH nnt chance the daces where
children co to school. It would
merely give school districts -more
aid. '
