Mrs. Maria C Jackson, widow
of the founder, and majority stock
holder said she wanted to lay to
rest rumors that the newspaper
might be sold to outside interests.
She said, "The Journal has not
been and is not for sale. We long
ago provided that the Journal will
remain a home-owned newspaper.'
Knight,-who is 44, is an attorney
who formerly was secretary of the
Pacific Northwest Newspaper As
sociation. He Joined the Journal
staff in 1948, and became general
manager 13 months ago . ;
Knight said be planned no staff
