but ... it's all a matter of where you
stand. Mrs. Jeryme EInglish. our society edi
tor, in describing the Christmas greens show
decorations said that the fir hedge yhich
divided old from new sections, of the phow
was colored Shocking Pink, while the report
from Lillie Madsen, Garden Editor, called it
Strawberry Red. Though the Foods editor
refrained from a report at the time, we think
she should add her opinion, she thinks it
was Hot Tamale color with Creole Sauce.
Very much missed . . . There'll be some
thing very important missing this year the
Christmas tree that cheerfully brightened
the courthouse lawn for so many years. But
then, many of us are missing the old pleas
ures these days. Looking for the clock, atop
the old courthouse, strolling underneath the
trees that were along Court and Summer
streets and enjoying the sight of pioneer
architecture. But then Salem must be ah up-and-coming
industrial city and we must not
be sentimental. Time enough for bemoaning
destruction of old things when they are all
gone and appreciation of history dawns
even on progressive civic leaders.
Casing the oint ... A well known Salem
matron, was wandering around the bank,
suddenly she heard a voice at her shoulder,
"Don't try it now, Granny," the voice said,
"there's too many people around."
Stubborn case ... Wish they wouldn't
write "pull" on the store door and distract
our attention from pushing the thing. Now
if they'd put "use own judgment" we might
soimetimes pull the door instead of pushing
it, when it should be visa versa.
Colorful, at least ... someday we will
find a new place for the shoe polish other
than beside the jar of night cream on the
dressing table top. Maybe dark brown sheets
and pillow cases are the answer . .
