Hunter's Bullet
Hits
Farmer
HOOD RIVER tfl A deer
hunter drew the blame Monday
for the wounding of a farmer who
sat down in the open at his iarm,
five miles south of here.
Martin Sczuba, 43. a fruit grow
er, said he was sitting ou a log 150
yards from his house, when two
shots we-e fired at him. The first
missed, but the second hit his side.
The enraged Sczuba took off in
pursuit of She rifleman, but could
nqt find him. He was not seriously
wounded, and after searching for
a while he; drove a hospital here
for treatment. .

Backs Down
NEW YORK (JP) The stock
market backed down Monday
with quiet j nervousness.
The moderate retreat was made
against the background of a
spreading strike of coal miners
. and a heightened discussion of
Korean peace in United Nations
circles. .
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks lest 30' cents at $104.80.
The industrial component of the
average was off 20 cents, the rail
roads off 5Q cents, and the utili
ties remained unchanged.
Vol'ime was a meager 1,050,000
. share. .
Losses in the railroad section
underlined .the peril of a lengthy
coal strike. ,
