When the leaves turn and begin to fall and the
mornings are crisp, club women turn their thoughts to
activities of the coming year. All clubs in the city, large
and small, .are holding their first meetings of the sea
son this month. Nearly all are engaged in some commun
ity or philanthropic project and the money raised by
"these groups during the winter is for most worthwhile
causes. Several thousand women in Salem are busily en
gaged in club work and today we have pictured just a
few ol the leaders ol these organizations

Golden Wedding Reception . .
Mr. and Mrs. Roma C Hunter will celebrate heir golden
wedding anniversary st a large reception: on Sunday, Oct 19
at the Scottish Rite Temple. Arranging the affair are the cou
ple's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harris Lietx, and
grandson, Robert Hunter Lietz. Friends are being , invited
through the press to call between 1 and o'clock. -
The couple's marriage took place in Waldo Hills at the
home ol Mrs. Hunter's late brother-in-law and sister, Mr- And
Mrs. A. D. HalL They have lived in Salem ever since. A n?3n
ber ol out-of-town guests are expected for : the anniversary ,
celebration, including several -who attended the wedding fifty

The Autumn Social Whirl . . .

Socially speaking, the coming week will be a' busy one, with numerous parties -on
the agenda. For Wednesday afternoon is the one o'clock luncheon for which Mrs. -W.
I, Phillips and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. William I Phillips Jr., will be hostesses
for a group of friends. The affair will be held at the former's home on West Leffelle
Street end covers will he placed for twenty-four guests. - '
On Wednesday and Thursday Mrs. Arthur Fisher, Mrs. Robert Drager and Mrs.
Harold dinger will entertain at the former's home on Electric Avenue. A large group -'
of friends have1 been invited to brunch between 10 and 2 o'clock. The following week
Mrs Olinger and Mrs. Drager will entertain with another brunch at the Drager home
on Shipping Street. The hostesses have invited a group of their friends to assist in
formally in the dining room.
Mrs. David Eason and Mrs. Paul Van Scoy are entertaining with the second of a-
.series of bridge luncheons on Thursday afternoon at the former's South Church
Street home.
Dancing Clubs Open Season j. . . -
Three clubt hae slated dances for the coming weekend. First will be the Boa
Heur Club's semi-formal dance at the Veteran's Hall on Friday night. Mason's Mel
odieres will play for dancing between 9 and 12 o'clock.
Tn'e committee includes Mr. and Mrs. Fred Humphrey, Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Harri
son, Mr. and Mrs. Max Schriber, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Tindall and Mr. and Mrs. Ken
neth Hamilton. I
Town Club Dinner Dance f .
The Town Club 1 hold'its first formal dinner dance of the season Saturday
nitht in the Mirror totom,of the Marion Hotel. Dinner will be served at 9 o'clock
" with dancing following 40 the music of Glenn Woodry's orchestra.

Carousel Dancing Club
The Carousel Dancing Club opens its season Saturday night with a semi-formal
dance at the Izaak Walton Clubhouse. Urs Wolf er and his orchestra will play be
tween 9 and 12 o'clock. - , . . .
Heading the directorate for the dance are Mr. and Mrs. James Calvert, chairmen,
assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Morris Buxton, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Denton, Mr. and Mrs.
