Atlantic Fish
Now in Oregon
The Atlantic salmon, renowned
for its fighting qualities and its
tendency to strike freely at an
artifical'fly, has been liberated in
Oregon waters. Game commission
fish tankers this month hauled 2,500
Atlantic salmon to Odell creek, out
let to Odell lake and tributary to
Davis lake near the WIQamett high
way. The salmon, ranging from
to 9 inches in length, were reared
at Wizard Falls fish hatchery.
Eggs for. the Atlantic salmon
stocking program were sent from
Canada's Gaspe peninsula in March
1951 by the Quebec departmennt
of game and fisheries as a gift to
the people of Oregon. Another 3,
000 Atlantic salmon are being rais
ed at Klamath fish hatchery.
The Odell creek release site was
chosen by the commission's fishery
staff because adjacent Davis lake
is rich in aquatic food and the
eastern salmon should develop rap-
wiy there.
