Blair, Monterey, Calif. artist, went on display in the festival amphitheatre last week and will remain . on exhibit! n through August 30, when the fes tival season ends. The paintings are mosaics with painted ceramic tiles forming the basic units. Miss Blair, who studied at Chi cago Art Institute, became inter ested in ceramics through her sis ter, Barbara Blair, well-known California pottier. She was also Interested in Shakespeare and the theatre and the unique work is tho result. Tho paintings have been on exhibit throughout the United States. Second only to art Is Miss Blair's interest in theatre She founded . the Wharf theatre in I Monterey and is ono of its direc flora. JEFFERSON A surprise gar den party honored Mrs. George C Mason and Miss Addie Libby Sat urday evening at the former's homo; on Main Street. The occa sion, planned by members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church, honored their many years of faith ful service to the church. Mrs. Mason, whose late husband was druggist here for many years, will be 84 years old on October 12. and has been a member of the Jefferson Methodist Church for the past 40 years, holding many of fices in the church and woman's society. Miss Libby, who was 81 years old July 22, has been a mem ber for more than 30 years, teach ins a Sunday school class for many vears. Bndel are home from a vacation spent at Vancouver, B. C. ' I Of interest to the many Salem friends of the bride is announce ment of the marriage of two mis sionaries. Miss Irene Forsythe and Dr. Perry O. Hanson, which took place in Portland on August 8 at the Calvary Presbyterian Church. The bride went to China in 1926 under the Presbyterian board of foreign missions and Dr. Hanson was a missionary for over 40 years in the Shantung province for the Methodist board of foreign mis sions. Both, who had been serv ing in the same general area, were held by the Communists as spies, along with several other American missionaries. It was just a year from the time of their re lease that they were married. The wedding ceremony was ac tually a religious service, with no bridal procession. The bridal party took their places informally on the front pews. Officiating were the Rev. Bryon W. Travis, the Rev. 1 George R. Comley of Salem, and the Rev. Earl K. Fenton, Wood-burn. The bride was given In mar riage by her brother, E. C. For sythe of Salem, currently on va cation from Red Cross work In Japan. The attendants were the bride's niece, Miss Margaret For sythe, Salem, Miss Judith For sythe, Pendleton, and flower girl was Sara Jane White, Union, a grand-niece. Dr. Kenneth Scott Latourette of Yale University and last year's president of the American Baptist Convention, was best man. The couple will reside In Iola, Kansas, for the ensuing year. Grange Picnic Sunday The West Salem Grange will hold 'its annual picnic on Sunday, August 17 at the Maude William son Park on the Dayton Highway, beginning at 1 p.m. All members and friends are invited to attend and bring , a lunch basket and table service. Ice cream, punch and coffee will be furnished by the grange.
