Stock Market Quiet Affair NEW YORK (iP)-The stock mar ket was an extremely quiet affair Monday with prices tilted upward. Actually there were a few more minus signs than plus signs, but pivotal issues were well ahead and pulled the averages up. The volume of trading came to only 780,000 shares. That was the total traded May 19 also. To get under the figures you have to go back to Oct. 3, 1949 when busi ness amounted to 760,000 shares. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks gained 20 cents at $106.60. The industrial component of the average was up 40 cents, and the railroad and utility com ponents each gained 10 cents.
