Grains went down while soybeans and lard went up. The divergence in trends didn't develop until about mid-day in the session. Until then, the whole market had acted quite firm, al though soybeans easily were out distancing everything else. From mid-day on wheat led a slow re treat in all grains. Wheat closed 4-lVi lower, corn Va- lower, oats y-i lower, rye y-4 lower, soybeans 14 -4 ft higher and lard 7 to 20 cents a hundred pounds higher. Stock Market to Close Saturdays NEW YORK 0F)-Major stock and commodity markets embark on a summer operating schedule this week-end that will see most closed on Saturdays until the first Saturday in October. Prominent exceptions to Satur day closing will be the Chicago Board of Trade and the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, which will work as usual throughout the summer on Saturday. This year the Saturday closing schedule gets off to an early start on Friday, May 30, when major markets close for the Memorial Day holiday. Polk County Men Plan Sheep Tour Cross-bred lambs on the Walter Leth farm will be featured at one stop on a Polk County sheep tour to be held Thursday, June 5. Another stop will feature a pure-bred operation on the Eldon Riddell farm. Starting at 10 ajn. (standard time) the tour will convene at the Riddell farm located on 99W, 3 miles north of Monmouth. Rid delPs flock includes Romneys, Southdowns. and Suf folks. The afternoon stop will be on the Leth farm, five miles south of Monmouth on the old Corvallis highway where Leth's commercial operation will be viewed.
