NEW HIGH STYLE FOR OAK
Watch for a new trend toward
high style furniture in oak. Oak
is the kind of sturdy, long wearing,
easy - to - care - for material that
crisp contemporary design calls for.
It lagged a long time in furniture
fashion because much of it was
massive and rustic rather than
light and living-room smart, and
then because the first modern oak
furniture was all so monotonously;
alike. That oak can take on the
grace and style and variety of top i
furniture fashions is well illus- i
trated by an eye - catching new !
grouping of living room and dining
room furniture designed by the
well known architect Edward D.
Stone, sketched in part here. Note
the bent legs, unusual for oak .the
combination of black lacquer and
natural finish, the slat tops, the
trim upholstery, the lightness of all
pieces. For the woven back and

On Etiquette
By sUberta Lm
Q. What are the duties of the
bridegroom's parents before the
wed ling? ;
A. Nothing special, outside of
paying a call on the bride's par
ents after the engagement has
been announced, and to ' uy the
bride as nice a wedding present
as possible. It's nice, too, for the
man's family to invite her and her
family to a gathering sometime
before the wedding.
Q. Is it proper to name a boy
John Jone II. rather than John
Jones, Jr.?
A. The "junior" is the only
proper suffix if a boy is named
for his father. Second" means
nephew or cousin, and never re
fers to the son.
Q. Ho- much of the hand
should be dipped into the finger
bowl?
A. Only the fingertips, one hand
at a time.
