It was announced Sat urday by Dr. Charles Derthlck, professor of psychology. First in itiation and installation of the chapter will be held in May. HL J. Spitzbart., Retired Iowa Farmer, Dies Herman J. Spitzbart, retired Iowa farmer, and member of a prominent Salem family, in this area since around 1900, died Fri day at a local hospital. He was 77. During most of the last few years he had lived in an apart ment house at 597 N. Liberty St. A bachelor, he lived for some time with two sisters, and was associ ated for most of the time he had lived in Oregon with a brother. Charles. They both came to the Salem area from Iowa about 1900. Charles, who died in 1941, oper ated a grocery store and post of fice near the site of tne Oregon State Fairgrounds. His son, Leo, nephew of Herman Spitzbart, now is manager of the Oregon State Fair. The deceased was born near Hawkeye, Iowa, June 28, 1874. He spent most of the last 50 years in Salem, although for a time re sumed his farming near Rupert, Idaho. Included among the many nieces and nephews in this locality who survive him besides Leo Spitz bart. are W. G. Krueger, who has operated a real estate office here for nearly 20 years; Arnold Krue eer. owner of Krueeer's Cash and Carry Grocery More in nasi 2a lem; and Mrs. Vera Barrick, wife of one of the owners of (Jougn Barrick Co., mortuary. Also surviving are nieces, Mrs. Frieda Teutsch of Corvallis; Mrs. Selma Kroeger and Mrs. Clara Lee, both of Salem; Mrs. Frieda Smith of Delake; Mrs. Gertrude Bergman of Naples, Italy; Mrs. Ir- ma Abbott of Antioch. Cam.; nephews, Erwin Oehler of Salem; Arnold Oehler of Westwood, N. J.; Lester Oehler of Corvallis, and several nieces and nephews in Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1 :30 p jn. Monday in the Clough Barrick Chapel, with interment in Belcrest Memorial Park. Free Vacation In Hawaii Just Wonderful9 What they described as "the most wonderful experience of our lives" is behind Mr. and Mrs. Emil Drees who returned Friday from a 10-day vacation in Hawaii. They were the guests of the Salem Downtown Merchants As sociation and United Air Lines as a result of winning the grand prize in the Association's Spring Fes tival last month. During their trip they visited most of the islands, spending con siderable time on the island of Hawaii and Oahu, where Hono lulu is located. Mrs. Drees said she was most Impressed with the beautiful scenery they saw there. Proving to her, she said, what small world it is, Mrs. Drees told of meeting Miss Phyllis Chase, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester I. Chase, 1450 State St, who was the stewardess on the strato-cruiser going over. Easter Sunday they spent with Miss Ann Munson, formerly of the Salem Chamber of Commerce who now lives in Honolulu. They also met a couple from Albany, she said. Some day they plan to go back there, and even if they don't, Mrs. Drees said they can remember this trip all their lives. Red Grafters Face Charges MOSCOW (P)-Six Communist Party members have been ex pelled and criminal proceedings are being taken against them for stealing collective farm property, Pravda announced Saturday. "Without the slightest prick of conscience, they thrust their hands into the collective farm pocket and took out dairy cattle and produce for a song," the Communist Party newspaper said.
