ALBANY (Special)- Salem
High School's Vikings dropped
their second game of the season
and also their second in district 8
action Friday as they took a 2-0
loss at the hands of the Albany
Bulldogs.
The tilt proved to be a tight hill
duel between Salem's Lowell
I'earce and Albany's Bob Bunford.
Pearce gave up five blows over
the route, but was hurt by some
poor support. Bunford yielded but
four hits to Harold Hauk's Vik
ings. The Vikings threatened a num
ber of times but never could push
a man across. Salem had a man as
far as third base In five different
innings.
Pearce fanned seven and walked
none. Jim Rice picked up two of
the Viks blows.

Qualifying Play Opens
In Elks Links Tourney
First-round play in the seventh annual Elks Links Tournament
is still some weeks off, bu lhe event gets its first flurry of action start
ing thus weekend as qualiiying action starts in other than the Cham
pionship flight. Qualifying play in the Championship flight is to be
held only on Sunday, April 2 th
The qualifying for other flights
extends from Sunday to the dead
line next Sunday night. All plan
ning to aim for the Championship
bracket must register on or before
April 23.
This year's tournament has
been broadened so that the door
is open to all amateur linksters in
the state. Previous entries were
confined to the mid-Willamette
Valley area.
Deadline for first-round matches !
is Sunday night, May 4th. A rigid
schedule will be followed this
time and all matches missing the
deadlines will be decided by a
coin flip.
The championship finals are set
for June 8th. Entrance fee is $1.50
and Includes the price of an award
dinner June 8th.

The Leslie Rockets tightened
their lead in the Junior High
School baseball chase Friday on
their own field as they nipped the
Parrish entry 8-7 With the aid of
a five-run rally in the seventh
and last inning.
Pitcher Bob Given was the big
man in the Leslie win. He went
the route, giving seven hits and
also larruped a two-run home in
the big seventh frame. Curt
Jantze and Bo bo Newsome hit
homers for Parrish.
The win was the second straight
