Cracks WU Javelin Standard McMINNVTLLE (Special)-TOl-lamette's Bearcats made an lm pressiYe debut to 1952 dual meet actios Friday as they rolled to a 93V ta rXV4 victory over the Lin field Wildcats in a battle featured by a Jareiin toss of 208 feet, 4 inches by the Bearcats' Stan Neperud. Neperud, sophomore from S li ve rtoo, established a new Willam ette mark with his mighty toss, topping the former school record of MS'C made last season by teammate Bob Hall. Coach Chester Stackhouse's Methodists captured 10 of the IS events, with Bill Van Horn takin two wins as he finished first in both the century and the 220. The tilt proved to be a tight hill duel between Salem's Lowell I'earce and Albany's Bob Bunford. Pearce gave up five blows over the route, but was hurt by some poor support. Qualifying play in the Championship flight is to be held only on Sunday, April 2 th The qualifying for other flights extends from Sunday to the dead line next Sunday night. All plan ning to aim for the Championship bracket must register on or before April 23. This year's tournament has been broadened so that the door is open to all amateur linksters in the state. Previous entries were confined to the mid-Willamette Valley area. Deadline for first-round matches ! is Sunday night, May 4th. A rigid schedule will be followed this time and all matches missing the deadlines will be decided by a coin flip. The championship finals are set for June 8th. Entrance fee is $1.50 and Includes the price of an award dinner June 8th.
