REDDING, Calif. (Special) -The
Salem Senators Friday had
fhedr first base problem removed
and got another outfielder as they
traded Sal DeGeorge, their hold
out pitcher, to the Victoria Ath
letics. In exchange for Sal. who
had Kaiifaj at terms offered him
by General Manager Hugh Lctby,
the Solons received Dick Bartle,
the Portland optionee who held
down first base for them last sea
son phis Ernie Sites, 29, an out
fielder with a reputation as a long
ball bitter.
Even though the Senators lost
DeGeorge, the WIL. earned run
king last year, the deal appeared to
strengthen them since pitching
seems to be one of the stronger
departments.
The Solans stretched their pro
season exhibition string of wins
to nine Friday afternoon with a
frva-irtning 11-2 win over tha Po
eatetla Barm Irks of tha Pioneer
League, atighthander Curt Schmidt
gave only four hits in tha five
frames. Glen Tuckett contributed
a homer to the Solon causa and
Torn Gain, tha rookie third Backer,
socked a double with tha bags
loaded. Outfielder Ollie Anderson
and Bartle speared a pair of hits
apiece.
Waters Workout Today
The Senators are due to arrive
in Salem Saturday in time for a
2 o'clock workout at Waters Park.
They'll be preparing for Sunday
afternoon exhibition with the
SUverton Red Sox at Silverton and
also for tha Wl opener at Spokane
Tuesday night.
Sites, the new outfielder, spent
the last three season with Phoenix
in the Southwest International cir
cuit. He hit .286 last year and the
season before eocked 20 homers
and finished up with a .307 aver
age. He should provide the Salems
with needed punch. Bartle rapped
.248 for the Solons last season.
DeGeorge von 16 games and
lost 10 for the Senators last cam
paign. He compiled a 2.46 earned
run figure to lead the league.
