McKennon told Salem Optimist Club of his tour last fall to Europe, under auspices of the United Na tions Food and Agriculture Or ganization. He also showed col ored slides of scenery and farm ing in the Low Countries and Italy. He said Holland uses more fer tilizer than any other country, both organic and chemical, to in crease crops. Soil is rotated ver tically, with properly balanced but deep soil dug out for top soil. Although this procedure is costly, he said, the country is without new lands to expand to for farm ing. Public Records Youths Plead Guilty on Liquor Charge Three youths pleaded guilty Thursday to illegal possession of intoxicating liquor, a charge plac ed against them after their car was halted for ignoring a stop sign. Billie Joe Logan, 19, Hubbard; William Frank Richards, 18. Mon itor, and George Edward Tennes, 18, Woodburn, were found by a Marion County sheriff's deputy to have a sack of beer in car when arrested Wednesday evening. They pleaded in District Court and are to be sentenced Saturday. Logan pleaded guilty to failure to stop at a stop sign and is to be sentenced Saturday. All were re leased on their own recognizance. Three Newest Justices Write Most Opinions The three newest members of the Oregon Supreme Court are writing two-thirds of the court's opinions, even though they weren't appointed to the bench until 1950. The trio Justices Walter L. Tooze, Earl C. Latourette and Harold J. Warner have written 70 of the 105 opinions that the court .has handed down since it returned from summer vacation last September. Justice Tooze, a circuit Judge in Portland until he was appointed to the supreme court only 16 months ago, is the freshman mem ber of the court. But he leads all the -rest with the 31 opinions he has turned out since September. In second place is Justice La tourette, who as circuit judge in Oregon City and who was ap pointed to the supreme court 26 months ago. He has written 21 opinions. Justice Warner, a former Portland lawyer who joined the court 19 months ago, has writ ten 18. Justice Arthur D. Hay, who has been on the high bench since 1942, . has written 12, compared with nine for Justice Hall S. Lusk, who was appointed 15 years ago. At the bottom of the list, with seven opinions each, are Chief Justice James T. Brand and Jus tice George Rossman. Restrictions Of Air Parcel Post Revealed Drastic restrictions on air par cel post to overseas mail handled by Army and Fleet Postoffices were announced Thursday, be cause shipments have exceeded facilities. On recommendation of the De partment of Defense, effective Saturday, such parcels will be limited to 30 inches in combined length and girth and two pounds in weight, compared to the pres ent 100 Inches and 70 pounds. This will not affect air parcels coming from overseas points to this country or packages going overseas by surface transporta tion. Rossman is dean of the court with 25 years of service. Decision Due, On Probe of Liquor Sales Final dispostion of .charges that two Sweet Home stores sold liquor to minors is expected at a meet ing of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission at 10 this morning in the Capitol. Hearings were held at Albany within the past month concerning charges against the Midway and Corner Groceries, resulting from allegations that one of four youths killed in an auto wreck Feb. 9 had bought beer et one of the stores. At the hearing on the Corner store it was indicated that the charge against it would be drop ped pending cdmmissien decision, but the store also faces similar charges, not connected with the fatal crash. SILVERTON Funeral serv ices will be held at 2 p. m. today in the Ekman Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Grace Dunagan, 77, who died Thursday at the home of her daughter in Newport. Born April 4, 1875 in Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Dunagan came to Sil verton as a small child. She had lived here all her life until sev eral years ago when she went to live with her daughter, Grayce Dunagan because of illness. Besides Miss Dunagan, she Is also survived by two other daugh ters. Miss Shirley Dunagan of De troit, Mich., and Mrs. Irene Wood ford of St. Helens; a son, Averitt of Portland, and three grandchil dren. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Arthur Charles Bate son. Final rites will be in Maple Grove Cemetery at Scotts Mills. Ceremony Starts Construction on The Dalles Dam - THE DALLES (JP) - This Mid Columbia city took the day off Wednesday to observe the official start of construction of the huge The Dalles dam. Schools and business houses closed, a parade wound through the city streets and on east of town to the dam site. An unex pectedly large crowd followed, jamming the Columbia River ' Highway with miles of automo biles. "This is a great day for Ore gon," said Gov. Douglas McKay, who headed the officials turning out for the occasion. Th feature of the ceremony was an explosion of black powder, touched off from the speakers' Elatform. The powder flashes out ned the area where the dam will span the Columbia River.
