Soybeans Give
Market Only
Firm Standing
CHICAGO (ifP-Soybeanj pro
vided the only firm spot as the
grain market drifted lower on the
Board of Trade Friday.
The buying In beans could
hardly have been called aggres
sive, but it sufficed to lift prices
as much as 2 cents.
Otherwise, the market's perfor
mance was a pretty sick one for
those who would like to see prices
CO higher.
After a steady opening, a slow
downward trend set in. Mainly,
it resulted from a lack of de
mand. Final prices were up frac
tionally from the day's lows.
Wheat closed - lower, corn
to 1 cent lower, oats -
lower, rye lower to higher,
soybeans to 2 cents higher
and lard unchanged to 8 cents a
hundred pounds lower.
Lively Buying
Holds Stocks
NEW YORK (JP) - The stock
market rolled quietly through an
other routine readjustment ses
sion Friday with lively buying ac
tivity holding the list fairly steady
on the whole.
The stock market advanaced
strongly the first two days this
week with enough vigor to push
the Associated Press average to
a new high going back more than
21 years.
The Associated Press average of
eo stocks lost 10 cents at $101.60
with the industrials down 10 cents,
rails down 30 cents, and utilities
up 10 cents.
The lower aspect of the aver
age was offset by the fact that
out of the 1,154 individual issues
traded 507 advanced and 370 de
clined. There were 46 new highs
and 10 new lows for the year.
Volume came to 1,640,000 as
against 1,560,000 shares Thursday.
