Oregon won that game in the final seconds when Ken Weftier tossed in a field goal. Coach BiH Borcher of the Ore gon! has been working his squad hard this week following the two lonsided losses to the University of Washington. The Huskies knocked the Webfoots out of first nlace and Oregon's Coast conier ence record is now two wins, two losses. The second pair of games with the Huskies are to be played here Feb. 1-2. St. Mary's is coached by the fiery and colorful Tom Foley. His team uses the fast-break offense. as does Oregon. Consequently fast series is expected. Ben (Stretch) Gibson at feet, eight inches is the tallest Gael player. Other St. Mary's standouts Include Bill Bagley at 6-3, George McLaughlin at 6-4, Bill Halley at 6-2 and Bob Steinkamp, also at 6-2. The probable Oregon s-ting lineup for the Friday game will have Bob Peterson and Mel Stree ter at forwards, Chet Noe at cen ter and Captain Ken Hunt and Wegner at guards. The games will start at 8 pjn. both nights. Savitt Rallies To Post Win ADELAIDE (JP) Defending Champion Dick Savitt of Orange, N. J., barely escaped with his skin Wednesday when he was forced to rally from 0-3 down in the fifth set to defeat lan Ayre oi tins bane. 6-1. 6-4. 5-7. 4-6. 6-4. in the quarter-finals of the Austral ian tennis championships. After winning the first two sets easily, the big American appeared to wilt in the burning 100-degree heat before he beat back the 22 year-old Queenslander's bid in the closing set. Savitfs opponent in Friday's semi-final will be tall Ken Mc Gregor, whom he defeated in the finals of both the Australian and Wimbledon championships last -rear. College Group Sets Meeting WASHINGTON WVThe execu tive committee of the American Council on Education will meet here Feb. 18 to vote on a highly controversial plan to de-emphasis college sports. The announcement of tne meet ing was made by Raymond Howes of the council.
