Oregon Tavern Total Drops Although Oregon's population rose nearly 40 per cent since 1940, this state now has fewer licensed taverns and restaurants selling al coholic beverages for on -premises consumption, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission reported Wed nesday. And there are fewer outlets per capita since 1941, when the com mission licensed 2,510 establish ments to sell for on-premises con sumption, or 2.3 per thousand pop ulation. At the end of 1951 the number of such premises had dropped and the population risen, resulting in 2,431 on -premises out lets, or only 1.63 per thousand per sons. Club licences granted by the commission also pemit on-premises consumption, but were not includ ed in the above compilation be cause club licensees cater only to , members and their guests and do not serve the general public. There were 149 licensed clubs in opera tion at the end of 1931. Oregon Soldier Air Crash Victim SACRAMENTO, Calif. (P-Ma-ther Air Force Base listed Pvt Herbert S. Hiatt, Portland. The two-engine bomber devel oped motor trouble while coming in for a landing, missed the run way and pancaked into the guard house. Ten minutes later it burst into flame.
