Valley Obituaries lUttwu News rrice Ben Seniles STAYTON, Dec 22 Services for Ben Schlies, 42, of Stayton will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Weddle chapel here with the Rev. Kenneth Abbott officiating. Schlies died Friday night at a Salem hospital where he had been confined about two weeks. He had been in ill health about a year. Schlies had been associated with several of his brothers in the Schlies Bros, garage here for many years. His death was the first among 12 children In the family. Surviving are the widow, Th el ma; his mother, Mrs. Josephine Schlies, Scio "route 2; brothers, George, Frank, Martin and Jake, all of Stayton, Ed of Dallas and Joe of Scio; sisters, Mrs. Julia Ortman. Featured in solo parts will be Mrs. Paula Sul livan, Mrs. Barbara Shower and Mrs. Clarice Judson. KCs Help Needy The Knights of Columbus will again this year distribute btets to the less fortunate at Chr.as. Christmas cheer boxes were placed in the grocery stores in Stayton, Sublimity, Jordan, Lyons, Mehama, North Santiam and Marion, to receive donations of food stuffs or cash for the baskets. Last year over 35 baskets were distributed by the Knights. These baskets contained not less than $20 worth of supplies and it is anticipated that this year even more will be distributed. In addition to personal contri butions and assistance from the treasury, $180 was raised from a dance staged In Stayton, Meeting Postponed A special meeting of the city council scheduled for last Tuesday was postponed because of illness of two members.
