Oil Refineries
BOMBAY, India -iAVTrombay
Island in Bombay harbor has ten
tatively been selected as the site
for the first of a trio of new oil
refineries projected by the Indian
government and foreign concerns.
Although final plans have not
yet been settled, the Indian gov
ernment has discussions in prog
ress with Britain's Burma-Shell
and the UJS. firms of Standard
Vacuum and Caltex. Two refin
eries will probably be located near
Bombay, while the third site may
be Madras or Calcutta.
HARROGATE, England - (JP) -British
businessmen were urged
here to "cast out from your works
and office and canteens all elec
tric radiators and water heaters
and cookers and replace them with
something more thermally effic

Conference of the British Institute
of Management by B. E. A. Vigers,
a London fuel efficiency expert.
Stressing the seriousness of Brit
ain's fuel shortage, Vigers said if

Indian School
?

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah-tfV
One of the fastest growing schools
in the country teaches only In
dians. It is the Intermoun tain Indian
school where Navaho pupils get
modern education in contrast to
their primitive life on the arid
land of a reservation lying in
Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.
Now in its third year, the school
has an enrollment of 2,150. Two
years ago 500 children attended,
last year 1,200. The army's Bush
nell hospital of World War II was
converted into the school and some
new buildings were added. The
school has students 6 to 18 years
old and is run by the federal gov
ernment as an experiment in In
dian education.
Dr. George A. Boyce, superin
tendent, says the young Navahos
do well in academic work and vo
cational training. They have made
"tremendous strides," he says, in
adjusting from their Indian cul
ture to American ways of life.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -(JP)-The
Chinese gong used by the

The gong was loaned to the or

son. Several years earlier, it had
been lost from Mrs. Carlson's yard
when carried off in a flash flood.
It was found by a neighbor who,
not knowing it as a musical in
strument, used it as a garbage
