The decision reversed the Mult nomah county circuit court. The company sued Bouthilller Motor Company, also of Portland, to obtain reimbursement for the money it lost as a result of the forgery. Records in the case show that in 1947, a man with a $2,262 forged draft on a New York bank, bought a car from the Richardson Motor Company, and received the car and $252 in change. The next day the man sold the car to Bouthlllier Motor Company for $2200. When the fraud was discovered Richardson sued Bouthilller, and the former won in the circuit court of Judge Martin W. Hawkins. Justice - Harold J. Warner held Richardson to blame for cashing the draft without identification.
