Swiss traffic policeman has invent
ed a device which, he says, could
prevent 80 per cent of all traffic
accidents.
Jakob Gossweiler, an inventor
who is assigned to the Zurich po
lice department's traffic division as
a technical expert, said that if his
combination brake and accelerator
pedal had been used in the United
States the past 50 years 800,000
lives would have been saved.
Under Gossweiler's system of a
combined brake and accelerator
pedal, one pushes down with his
heel to provide more gas and with
the ball of his foot to apply the
brakes. The foot Is, therefore, al
ways in braking position. Further
more, pressure on the brake pedal
automatically cuts off the gasoline
o there is no possibility of "step
ping on the wrong pedal."
