Succumbs at
Quinaby Home
Frances . Mary Ganlard, a life
long resident of Quinaby area who
had spent most of her life in the
family home, died unexpectedly at
her home Tuesday morning. . She
was 69. - ,;-).!
Born January 28,' 1882, she at
tended school at Lake Labish, when
it was known as Perkins school.
In 1903 she was married to J. N.
Ganiard in Salem. For a few years
she and her husband lived in sev
eral other places near Salem, but
they returned to the family home.
Her parents, who came to the
United States from Austria and
were married in Portland in 1874,
left the home to a brother, Robert
Diem with whom Mrs. Ganiard had
lived. She also owned 40 acres.
part of 160 acres in the, Quinaby
area left to her brother and an
other sister. j i
She was a charter 'member of
the Labish chapter of the Royal
Neighbors of America and had be
longed to the organization more
than 40 years. She also attended a
parish Catholic church at Brooks
for many years until j the church
was destroyed by fire. Sine then
she has been active in church
work at St. Vincent de PauL . -
She is survived by two daugh
ters, Mrs. Helen E. Mayfield of
Salem, and Mrs. Genevieve Hug of
Mt. Angel; two brothers, Robert M.
Diem and Frank T. Diem, both of
Salem, and four grandchildren.

Following a conference with the
supreme court the visitors talked
briefly with Gov. Douglas McKay
and then attended a Kiwanis club
luncheon.
They spent most of the after
noon at the home of Chief Justice
James T. Brand.

state forestry department for the
operation, of a convicts camp in
the- Tillamook burn. !
All expenses of operating the
camp with the exception of 22 Mr-
cents a day for food will te paia
by the forestry division. The peni
tentiary will pay for food. ' - ,'
-; There - are now approximately
50 convicts 'at the camp and this
number probably will be increased
to 100 or 200 later. The convicts
will receive $1 a day for their
work which will center largely on
planting of trees and construct
ing trails and roads.
Overall cost to the ' forestry
board was estimated at about $3
per day per convict.
Praise was given the board of
control by the Oregon chapter,
American Association of Social
Workers, for the progress being
made at the boys training school
at Woodburn. The progress " is
deserving of public recognition
and support," a letter from the
chapter read. : ' ,
The board granted' the state in
dustrial accident Commission per
mission . to revise its . working
hours so its entire operating force
would be dismissed at 4:45 p. m.
instead of 5 p. m. This is neces
sary, Paul Gurske, commission
chairman said, to make use of the
new operating schedule of street
