One of the speakers is to be Bishop Ira D. Warner, who laid the cornerstone cf the present building 20 years ago. The program i&l set for 3 pjn. The congregation was organized as the Church of the United Brethren in Christ on. Nov. 28, 1901. with 28 members. The Rev. New ton-J. Crawford conducted its ser vices in a mission tent at 417 Mar- fc st ; , The next , year a block at 14th and Marion streets was purchased tot- a building, a frame structure which was named Castle chapel in honor of Bishop Nicholas Castle. In 1908 the present property at 17th and Nebraska streets was bought and the chapel moved there. A parsonage was added.' -,'' The present masonry structure was constructed in 1930-31, includ ing sanctuary, kitchen, dining room and numerous classrooms in its two stories and basement. It is now valued at more than 490,000. The church's name was changed to Englewood on Jan. 8, 1931. in honor of the community. Merger with the Evangelical denomination came in 1947. The congregation now has 230 members, a Sunday school of more than 200 pupils in 17 classes, three choirs, a men's quartet ' violin trio and other musical groups. A new $1,600 . organ was dedicated last Easter. Present pastor is the Rev. Lloyd G. Uecker, who has served for the past four years and gave the church its motto of "The Friendly Church with a Spirit of Welcome." Mrs. Lindstrom has been active in supporting the work of the United Nations for world peace and in fostering racial amity. - Thanlisgiving Slates Gunther The annual Thanksgiving union servioe sponsored by Salem Minis terial association is slated for 10 am. Thursday at First Presby terian church. Speaker will be the Rev. Paul W. Gunther, pastor of Christian and Missionary Alliance church. Other ministers participating will include . Dr. Henry Marcotte of First Presbyterian, the Rev. Robert E. Sanders of Halbert Memorial Baptist, the Rev. David L. Fenwick of Free Methodist and the Rev. G. Wesley Turner of Leslie Methodist. ' The program was arranged by a committee headed by the Rev. W. H. Lyman of Court Street Christian. In addition to congregational singing, the service will include two anthems by the Presbyterian cfaoir, Thanks Be to Thee, O Lord (Handel and Thanks Be to God (Dickson). Charles Stowell will direct, and Mrs. Ralph Dobbs will be organist. The offering is to go Church World Service for Korean relief. Ushers for the service will be Hi-Y club members. Four at Silverton SILVERTON Four Silverton churches have announced special services for Thanksgiving day at Silverton. 'At the Methodist church the service will be at 10:30 Thursday morning with special numbers by the choir and the Rev. Douglas Harrell speaking. An offering will be taken for the building fund for the new church. Both Calvary and Immanuel Lutheran churches will have serv ices at 10:30 with special music. At Trinity Lutheran the serv ice will be at 11 o'clock with music by both the Junior and senior choirs. - Unite at Sweet Home SWEET HOME The Sweet Home Ministerial association has slated a union Thanksgiving serv ice for 7:30 pjn. Chancel Work Dedication Set The new chancel and furnish ings at St Mark Lutheran church will be dedicated at the Sunday morning service, according to the Rev. John L. Cauble, pastor. Renovation of the chancel has been in progress for the past month and new items include al tar, pulpit lectern, paraments, al tar cross, floor candelabra and missal stand.
