Haln, enthuslatic local fisher men, have returned from spending a few days fishing in the Waldport area, Creech told of one unusual and fortunate experience. He said, "One day John and I were fishing from a motorboat at Eagen's Land ing, about five miles up the Alsea river above Waldport I hooked a good salmon and ne ran ine une nearly oui Deiore i coma rum rum. "I got him up to the boat and he circled around it a fewtimes.; John tried to use the gaff but missed him and he went under the boat." As he circled around I was afraid he would tangle with the motor, so held the pole out over the motor to keep him clear. Lost Fishing Pole "He came up from - unde the boat and broke water again, then dived and jerked the pole out of "I looked across to the shore to line up with a house, as there was a strong outgoing tide. I reached into the tackle box and tot a heavy weight and looped it onto John's line and threw it overboard and then started the motor and came back upstream again into line with the house. I made a half circle and John hook ed tut line. As soon as he hooked my line the fish broke water again and John said 'I've got a fish!' He reeled in his line and had my line on his hook. I reached out and got hold of my line" and overhanded it into the boat where I reeled It up. The fish made a few more circles and then I brought him in and John gaffed him. We got both fish and pole, to the amusement of the fishermen in 20 or 30 boats who had gathered around to see the port from up and down the river. It was a nice Silverside and weighed 11 pounds."
