19, when a group of their friends
Joined them; for the occasion.
Mrs. Powers, who was . Maria
Bures, was born in Bohemia, com
ing to Exeter, Nebraska, with her
mother when 8 years old. Mr,
Powers, a native of eastern Ore
gon, followed farming . much of
his lifetime, but for a time was
"mule skinner, I driving eight
mules in four spans, on i a two
wagon freighter between Shaniko
and Lakevlew. His "Jerkllne out
fit, hauled; merchandise to small
remote posts. He began i driving
m 1908, and continued for 8
years, until automobile transporta
tion edge-1 into the field. ;
The coupla was married at Pal
ouse, Washington. June S, 1895
Mr. Powers la 77, Mrs. Powers 78
They lived in California before
coming to Monmouth In 1938. They
have two sons: Delmer L. Powers,
a geologist at Wiohlta, Kansas; and
Nelson A. Powers, manager of
West Fir mill; 4 grandchildren,
