and son banquet sponsored by the
Womens Society of Christian Serv
IceT was held at the community
club hou?e Thursday evening with
Thomas Putman master of cere-,
monies. The address of welcome
was given by the Rev. O. I. Jones
cf the Lyons Methodist church.
Two vocal numbers were given ty
Mrs. Charles Power. ,
Gifts were presented to Loren
Chamberlain, oldest father pres
ent, and Thomas Putman, young
est father, followed by a vocal
number by Mrs. Charles Power,
Deanne, Thompson and Vivian
fcoyce.
Mr." and Mrs. Clyde Bressler
were Sunday dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Phil Corbett of Salem.
They also visited Mrs. Myrtle Hes
ter who is in-the hospital with
severe burns.
John Trahan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Calvin Trahan, underwent
, an appendectomy at Salem Me
morial hospital Friday afternoon.
Mrs. Jack Christenson Sunday
. flew to Coldwater, MichJ, where

and son, Donald, of Tillamook vis
ited relatives -over the week end.
They were guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Burmester
were Sunday guests in Scio. ,
Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Roye were
Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Rogers in Portland.
The last meeting of the first aid
class was Monday evening with
Mrs. Leonard Thoma of Lebanon
as instructor. Those receiving cer
tificates were Ivan Smith, Thomas
Putman. Monroe Walker, Otto
Weidman, Gertrude Weidman,
Alice Huber, Bea Hiatt. Alta Eo
deker, Reta Cruson, Vivian Boyce,

Flax Festival
Plans Advance
In Mt. Angel

MT. ANGEL k The Mt. Angel
Business Men's club voted an ad
vance of $300 to the Flax Festival
committee Monday noon to provide
a working fund with which to start
preparations for the celebration
August 10, 11 and 12.
Al Dieker reported the com
mittee had decided to stress the
children's angle in the festival,
having a junior king and : queen,
featuring the children's parade and
free rides for the youngsters -all
during the festival.
President Gores announced the
blood1 bank would be in ML Angel
from 2 to 7 pjn. May 24 and he
urged the business men to donate
blood to help the town reach its
quota.
A final report on the Red Cross
drive was made by Gores, who was
campaign chairman. He said $932
was solicited, which was all but
$67 of the quota of $1000.

Buys Property

Prine has purchased the property
known as the battery shop at
Mahrt avenue and South Lancaster
drive. Prine has remodeled the
building, adding a sales room and
office on the front. Prine will op-
erate under the name . of Prine's
auto service. He will install gaso
line storage tanks sufficient to op
erate a two pump station. He also
has begun a building in the rear
that will be used as an oil refining
plant. j
Mrs. Charlene Girard, teacher
of the mixed fourth and fifth grade
at Lincoln school, took her students
on a field trip Tuesday to see the
Oregon historical caravan 'at the
statehouse.

Hill cemetery. Ladies of the

Slattum and sons, Gerald and
Donnie. The new owners will live

occupied by the Slattum family.
