for Mrs. Sadie Marie Baughman,
42, of route 1, Albany were held
from the Fisher i:unerai home
Friday, with the Rev. K. V. Bar-
nett of Albany and the Rev. Ly
man Hoytf of Alsea officiating.
Burial was in St. Johns cemetery.
Mrs. Baughrnan died February 1?
in Monterey, Calif. following a
stroke. She had been visiting at
the home of a daughter. She had
lived in Albany since 1940 and
v as a member of the Nazarene
church. i i !
Mrs. Baughman had been mar
ried twice. Her first; husband, Ed
ward Garvin, died -a number of
years ago. In 1944 she was mar
ried to Charles A. Baughman, who
survives. Surviving also are four
children, Mrs. Gladys North of
Monterey, ! Calif., and Evelyn,
Marlys and Arlene Garvin all of
Albany: her mother. Mrs. A. C.
Ave rill, and five brothers. Harold,
Clarence, Cloyd, Alvrn and Theo
dore, all of Albany J and two sis
ters, Mrs. frene Orton of Alsea,
and Mrs. 1 Edith i - Walters of
Medji, Minn.
Willard Arch Sloper.
INDEPENDENCE ? Last rites
for Willard Arch Sloper, 71, a
pioneer of the hop growing indus
try here, were held Thursday at
the Walter L. Smith mortuary in
Independence. He was buried at
Belcrest Memorial cemetery in Sa
lem. ;
Sloper was a life-long resident
of Independence, and spent more
than 40 years inventing, manu
facturing, and developmg labor
saving machines for the hop grow
ers. ;
He is survived by his wife, Hat
tie; a son, Willard; two daughters,
Mrs. G. A. Palmer, Fruitland, Ida
ho, and Mrs. Arthur Clinton, In
dependence; a sister, Mrs. Orpha
Cockle, Independence; and nine
grandchildren. One; son preceded
him in death.
