Prices Ahead
CHICAGO, Feb. 15-P-That ole
Debbrl inflation rested quietly for
most of the session on the board
of trade today, but toward the
close he rose up and provoked a
sharp rally in feed grains.
Once the inflationary psychol
ogy took bold, a lethargic market
Jumped to life. Corn and oats ad
vanced to new highs since 1948.
Old crop wheat deliveries recover
ed early losses and ended higher.
Bye made new seasonal peaks. All
soybeans except November closed
t ceilings.
Wheat finished V lower to
Jiigher, com unchanged to 1
higher, oats -l higher, rye 1
to 2 higher, soybeans unchang
ed to 1 higher and lard unchang
ed to 8 cents a hundred pounds
higher.
Stock Prices
Retreat Again
NEW YORK. Feb. lS-;P)-Stock
prices retreated for the third
straight session today in the slow
est trading in three months.
It was the first time since the
Chinese reds joined the Korean
fighting last November that the
'market slid three days in a row.
Losses were not large, ranging
from a- few cents to around $1.50
share. Gaining stocks, which
were liberally distributed through
out the list, moved over a similar
range.
. The fact" that the volume of
trading slid to 1,700,000 shares
lowest for a full session since 1,
620,000 shares changed hands last
November 15 was sufficient in
dication that selling pressure at
most was light. Wednesday's total
was 2,060,000 shares.
It was not a one-sided market.
Of the 1,161 separate issues that
figured in the day's operations.
393 were higher and 511 declined.
There were 47 stocks at new 1950-
51 highs, with no new lows.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks dropped 40 cents at
$96.10. The industrial segment of
the index was off 70 cents, rails
down 40 cents and utilities up a
dime.
