Yoncalla Pair Dies as
Car Dives into Creek
ROSEBURG, Jan. 20-0P)-The
bodies of a Yoncalla couple, Mr.
and Mrs. Leo Henry Morin, were
taken today from their car, which
was submerged in the icy waters
of Canyon creek, 12 miles west of
Oakland.
Deputy Coroner M. B. Emmitt
said the car plunged off the high
way into the five-foot deep stream
last night.

PORTLAND, Jan. 20 The Ore
gon Physicians' service announced
that in the third quarter of 1950
Blue Shield medical care plans, in
cluding plans from 42 states and
the District of Columbia, showed
an increase of 1,296.416 new mem
bers. With this additional mem
bership the total of all 76 plans is
boosted to 17,846,691, representing
11.83 per cent of the nations popu
lation. Oregon, with 222.432 enrolled or
14.62 per cent of the population,
ranks 11th in the nation, compared
with 13th a year ago.

was killed and 25 other persons
injured, none seriously, today
when a Canadian Pacific railway
flyer smashed into a stalled coal
truck at a level crossing here and
jumped the rails.
Killed was engineer Albert

scalded to death by steam when
trapped in the cabin of his engine.
His fireman, Earl Fergus, leaped
to safety and escaped with scald

state archives, Mrs. Eleanor Steph
ens, state librarian, announced Sat
urday. She said library visitors would
have access to a growing collection
of important records gathered on
microfilm from the national ar
chives, libraries and other govern
ment agencies.
' Some of the most valuable films
include population schedules based
on the United States census for
Oregon for 1850, 1860, 1870 and
1880.
In addition to acquiring official
records on micro-film, the state li
brary has purchased films of Ore
gon newspapers, including the
Spectator, Oregonian, Oregon Jour
nal, Oregon Statesman and East
Oregonian.
