On the Social Agenda . . .

Highlighting the society page today are Oregon'
high officials pictured with their families, who will b
the center of many social events in the next few month
while the 46th legislative assembly is in session.
The Jerris avenue home of Governor and Mrs. Dou
glas McKay will be the scene of numerous affairs in th
coming months with dates to be announced later. Mrs.
McKay has resumed her weekly at homes on Tuesday
afternoons, holding the first one last week.
The Salem Women's Republican club will hold its
meeting on Monday afternoon at the McKay home at 2
o'clock. The guest speaker will be Senator Howard
Belton and his subject is "How Taxes Effect You." Pre
cinct committee women have also been invited to hear
the senator. Tea will be served following the meeting
and Mrs. P. A. Ficke, county chairman, has been asked
to pour. Mrs. Charles A. Sprague is president of the
club. Mrs. Ralph H. Cooley is m charge of the tea ar
rangements. Pattersons to Entertain
President of the Senate Paul L. Patterson and Mrs.
Patterson will entertain with an open house on Wed
nesday, January 24 in compliment to members of the
senate and their wives. The af:air will be held in the
Capital room of the Senator hotel between 5 and 7
o'clock. Also bidden to the aifair are members ot the
board of control and their wives and members of the
Washington county delegation ct the legislature ar.d
their wives.
Teas on Agenda
Two other social events cn the January calendar
for the legislative contingent is the Town and Govm
tea on January 25 and the Salem Woman's club pro
gram and tea on January 25. The Town and Gown tea
wiii honor wives and daughters of legislators and will
be held at Lausanne hall between 3 and 5 o'clock. The
affair is given each session in compliment to the vis
itors and Mrs. William L Phillips is general chairman
of the directorate.
The Salem Woman's club regular meeting on Jan
uary 26 will honor wives of tegislators and waves of
supreme court justices. The cf:a:r willl be held at th
Woman's club at 2 o'clock.

Justice Brand is pictured with Mrs. Brand, and son, Tom, a freshman
ct the University of Oregon law school. In June h graduated from
Stanford university. The Brands' North Summer street home, so centrally
located, is always a popular meeting and gathering place for friends and

The Ben Lomand Park home of Dr. and Mrs. Hugh A. Dowd willibe th
scene of an informal gathering on Wednesday night when the hosts will show
their pictures of Hawaii to members of the Salem Clinic, the staff, theit wives
and husbands. Later in the r-ening refreshments will be served by the hostess.

Thursday afternoon Mrs. Linn C Smith has invited members of the Town
and Country club to a one o'clock luncheon at her Cbemeketa street home.
Bridge will be in play after the luncheon hour. , i
