I The Willamette Bearcats racked
up their initial win of the year
last night as they downed Oregon
Tech by a score of 75 to-63. The
game was the 'Cat's home opener,
and the victory was mighty sweet
' In light of the pair of defeats
handed them last week by Seattle
University.
The visiting Owls were in the
ball game right up until the final
ten minutes, when, after trailing
for the first and only time in the
game, Willamette turned on the
cas and pulled away. Six minutes
into the second half a short one
bander by Gene Wells put O.T.I.
out in front 46 to 45. Free thorws
by Wells and Don Sutphin in
creased the lead to three points,
end then the 'Cats went to work.
Doug Logue pusned througn a
twenty footer and Chuck Robin'
son followed with a jump shot
from the key to put Willamette
back into the lead at 49-48. In
the next eight minutes Robinson
led his mates to a 63 to 52 lead,
registering two field goals on his
favorite hook shot, plus a pair of
tree throws. I
With six minutes left m the
: game Robinson and Logue both
fouled out, and Coach John Lewis
let his reserves take the game
from there.
Willamette Jumped into a lead
of 8 to 2 early in the game on

give up. They cut. the lead to one
Doint three times and trailed by

and Wells kept the game alive for
the visitors with several sensa

shots without 'a miss mid-way

EUGENE. Ore.. Dec. 8-GPV-The fast-stepping UCLA Bruins trim-

i series here tonight.
John Wooden s well-coached Bruins hardly wasted a shot from
start to finish. They plunked in 29
of 57 shots for a surprising .308
average. Oregon never threatened
these sharpshooters.
Forward Jerry Norman, a 6 foot
junior from Los Angeles, led the
victors. He cast off 19 times and
12 of his shots swished home. He
converted his only two free throws
and wound up with 26 points, high
scorer for the game.
Meanwhile Oregon started cold
and never got much more than
lukewarm. In desperation Oregon
cut loose- 100 shots, a record-
breaking total for the team, and
saw only zu liy borne.
It was four minutes before Ore

UCLA was ahead, 10-1, by that
time. At the half it was 43-24.
