ATHENS. O., Oct. 12 -VPh- Mrs.
Mary Frances Gillette of Stroud's
Run, O., celebrated her 35th birth
day today 24 hours after giving
birth to her 11th consecutive
daughter.
Airs. Gillette s physician said he
thought the Ohio mother had set
some sort of record by having 11
girls in 15 years without ever
having had a son.
"I don't care much about the
record," smiled Mrs. Gillette from
her bed in sheltering arms hospital.
Mrs. Gillette, a heavy-set brun
ette with a ready smile and an
utterly relaxed viewpoint on life.
said "I don't mind at all" having
all girls.
She smiled when someone com
mented that the father, Harold
Lee Gillette, 41, pro bably was dis
appointed in not having a son
along the line.
You can't have everything,"
she said calmly. "He'll just have
to be disappointed.
For the benefit of a newspaper
reporter, Mrs. Gillette slowly ran
down the list of Gillette girls.

The newest Gillette, a healthy,
wriggling little girl who weighed
seven pounds, 12 ounces, arrived
yesterday. Mrs. Gillette observed
her 35th birthday today. Tomor
row she goes home to the little
six-room frame house in the
Stroud's Run community, five
miles north of Athens in south
east Ohio.
Father Gillette wan't around to
day. He was busy earning a living
in the service department of the
McBee company in Athens for 11
girls, a wife and a six-room house.
REPORTS RIFLE STOLEN
Larceny of a Winchester rifle
valued at $62.50 was reported to
city police late Thursday night by
James Steely, Scio. He said it was
taken from his car while it was
parked in the 800 block of North
Commercial street.

Boys to Start
Rifle training sessions for Salem
boys, under sponsorship of Salem
Optimist club, will resume Wed
nesday at 7:30 p.m. at the navy
marine reserve armory, the club
announced at Thursday's meeting.
Dr. Kermit Peterson, in charge
of the rifle team this year, said
the target practice and safety
training will be given weekly to
all 12 to 17-year-old boys Interest
ed. The armory is on Airport road.
Rifles and ammunition is furnished.
Speakers at the club's luncheon
meeting were Jimmy Heath and
Julian Thruston of the club-spon
sored Boy Scout troop 2. Intro
duced by Scoutmaster Robert
Hammond, they recalled the fun
and training they had gained from
scouting. A prize was presented to
Thruston.
Long to Face
Slaying Charge
PORTLAND. Oct. 12-WV-Wayne
LeRoy Long, 26, will be tried first
on a Clackamas county murder
charge and then on a federal
charge of bank robbery, officials
said today.
Long, in the Rocky Butte jail
here, was captured in a gun battle
atter the bank robbery.
He is accused in the slaying of
Walter T. Rucker, Portland, in an
isolated Clackamas county area.
Long was to be released to Clacka
mas authorities today.

Burglarized
A house in the Candalaria dis
trict was burglarized Thursday
while the owner was away deer
hunting.
Police were called to the Victor
Smull rsidence, 270 Candalaria
blvd., by neighbors late yesterday.
They found several rooms ran
sacked. Entry was gained by pry
ing a window. Thefts, if any, were
not determined.
It was the third house burglary
investigated by city police during
the day.
New Fairview

Is Dedicated
Brief ceremonies dedicating the
new $150,000 hospital building' at
Fairview home were held Thurs
day afternoon' with a number of
state officials and others ii at
tendance. Dr. Irvin Hill, home superin
tendent, presided. He predicted the
new hospital would meet the re
quirements of the institution for
several years.
The building is one story nign,
of fire-proof construction, and has
a capacity of 56 beds. It replaces
the old hospital which was partly
destroyed by fire two years ago
and is now being converted into a
school building. - -
- The hospital facilities' also will
be available for several other
smaller state institutions.

price and rationing controls at

They urged that consumer
credit curbs be relaxed Instead
of tightened. V
Spokesmen for a number, of na
tional retail dealer association told
government officials sales have
fallen off since the credit curb
were imposed September 18. and
that retail prices have declined
already "in some areas.'
Their protests on the credit
curbs came while the federal re
serve board was considering ac
tion, posibly as early as next
week, to make still tougher the
controls on installment buying ap
plied In mid-September

Thursday directors of the associa
tion were told at a regular meet
ing last night
Similar institutes will be held at
