Mrs. Gerald Baker is slowly
improving from infantile paraly
sis in Portland hospital where
she was- taken recently for a six
months' series of treatments. She
was' stricken a year ago and has
-been totally paralyzed.
A birthday dinner was given
for Jim Shipley this week by Mr.
and . Mrs. Gilbert Marvin. Other
guests were Mrs. Shipley and son,

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest ; Wohleb
and children, former residents of
Villamina, are now living in Cor
vallis. Mr. Wohleb, who graduat
ed in June from Linfield college,
has received orders to return to
service with the army.
Mr. and Mrs Kenneth Griffin
and Kenny have moved to Coos
Bay where he is employed. Their
home here has been purchased by
Mr. and Mrs. George Kulick, who
have moved in.
Enjoying the week end in Ma-
rysviUe, Calif, were Mr. and Mrs.
H. J. Parrett and Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Shetterly,- who flew there
Saturday, returning home Sunday

tables of cards in play at the first
card -party of the season sponsored
by the St. Rita's Altar society at
the parish hall Sunday night, Sep

ners in 500 and Valentine Miller
held high for Pedro. Joseph Saal-
leid won the door prize. Mrs. An

FIRE DAMAGES CAB .
SILVERTON The Don. Kjos
coupe was damaged considerably
by fire late Sunday night as it was
parked on Main street in front
of the Weiby store. " Origin "of the
lire - was unknown but the -fire
department arrived in time to pre
vent complete destruction.
