Wade Patterson, 29, of Portland,
Wednesday was appointed health
educator for the Marion county de
partment of health, by Dr. Willard
Stone, county health officer.
Patterson, University of Wash
ington graduate, will take over his
new duties October 1. He suc
ceeds Howard Pyfer, who plans to
study for a medical degree in Seat
tle. Pyfer had been fining the post
f Francis Reierson, who was on
leave to attend the University of
California and since" has been ap
pointed to a post in the state health
department. '
Patterson, native of Portland, at
tended Oregon State college in
1940-42, University of Washington,
1946-48, graduating with degrees
In health and physical education. -
He has taken graduate work in
administration and supervision of
education from the University . of
Oregon extension school. He taught
school and coached all sports. at
St. Helens high school for the past
two yearv ,
He was a navy pharmacist's
mate during the war. He served in
the South Pacific and completed
his tour of duty at Guam.
Patterson is in Salem this week
familiarizing himself with his
duties which, in general, consist of
promoting health activities through
crganized community efforts.
Suspended Jail
Sentence Given

Murel Cluck, 2173 N. Front st,
' received a suspended 60-day Jail
sentence Wednesday in Marion
county district court on a charge
of drawing a bank check with in
sufficient funds., . j
Cluck previously had changed
his plea from innocent to guilty
to the charge. He was placed on
probation for one year.
In other court action. Judge
Joseph Felton authorized the re
lease of Alfred Ecker, Monroe, to
a. XJ. S. marshal. Ecker, who ad
mittedly was involved in a post
office holdup at Aurora in 1948,
was wanted for violation cf a fed
eral parole.
Timber Tract
Sale Slated

Tout timber tracts in Polk and
Oackamas county will be put up
for sale at an oral auction sched
uled October 9 at the district for
ester's office in Salem.
The bureau of land management
ssxnounced the timber included an
estimated 8,000,000 board feet of
S&Kibcr
An additional 12,000,000 board
feet located on two timber tracts
in Senton county also is up for
sale. Sealed bids will be opened
October 10 in the office of the
regional administrator in Portland.
Other oral auction sales of tim
ber will be conducted between Oc-
tsber 9 and 13 in Eugene, Rose-
burg, Medford and Coos Bay. ,
