Festival Preparation Nearly Completed; Selected Events Set Preparations for Salem's fourth post-war Cherryland festival are nearing a climax this week, with the new-type program of the annual event set for next week, Thursday through Saturday, June 15-17. More emphasis on fewer events is the keynote this year of plan ning under Sidney L. Stevens, festival association president The pro gram will include a queen's ball and two other dances, carnival, a community wide jpageant oi nog ress each night, children's and grand parades, drill teanir contest dance revue and carnival; Prime feature of the 1950 show is the pageant an outgrowth of the Salen Centennial pageant of 10 years ago. Though professionally directed and produced, it will have all local talent. More than 2,000 persons from numerous Salem or ganizations of all typesiare re hearsing for the episodes of the area's history and development It will be presented at the state fairgrounds grandstand three nights. ' First festival event will be the public queen's ball Wednesday night at Glenwood ballroom. There will be street dancing each night at Marion square. Fifteen From Area to Join Naval Cruise Fifteen Salem area men will be among 333 naval reserve trainees who will embark June 17 from Se attle aboard two destroyer-escorts on a 28-day training cruise to Aca pulco, Mexico. The cruise will be the longest in point of time since World War II. Trainees, representing 22 north west cities, will be granted liberty to San Francisco, Santa Catalina island, San Diego and Acapulco.
