Plan Defeated
WASHINGTON, May 18 -UPU
The senate late today killed Presi
dent Truman's reorganization plan
for the agriculture department.
The senate previously had knockf

n proposals submitted by Mr.
Truman in March. Those which
escape disapproval
become law
after 60 -days. This period ends
Tuesday. A' majority in either
chamber can kill a plan.
Earlier in the day, the house
approved two of the plans to re
organize the labor and commerce
departments. These two proposals
are still subject to possible senate
action.

Cripples Car
A California tourist was delay-
d in Salem several hours Thurs- I
day after his car was damaged
in a collision with a tire. '
Ernest Vorgan, en route to Se-
attle from California, was driv-
ing north on highway 99E south
of Salem Thursday morning wnen
a tractor tire bounced from a pick- I
ud truck and into the hood of his
car. The hood, fender and grill
of Vorean's 1949 Kaiser were
heaVily damaged and tow service
was required to get the machine
to a Salem garage. ' n
N Ktate notice said the 38-inch
tractor tire was being hauled on
the back of a truck operated by
Fred Nichols of Bend when it
bounced off and down the hi eh-
way into the passenger car.
