: Shortstop Ron Parsons slammed out -a bases-loaded home run in
the sixth inning yesterday at Oiinger field to give' the Salem Vikings
6-2 district baseball victory over the Silverton Silver Foxes. The
Foxes were In front 2-1 when the smash came and Jack Kolln of
Coach Milt Baum i nine was hook-
ed up in a hurling duel with Gene
Garver of Harold Hauk's locals.
The Vikings had scored a run
In the first inning on two hits. Bill
Johnson driving across the tally.
Silverton tied it up in the. third
and went ahead in the sixth. Then
came Parsons' wallop, followed in
the same inning by 'Jim Stewart's
theft of home for Salem's final
run. '
Garver whiffed seven and walk
ad no one in registering his "tri
umph. Kolln fanned five and
walked six. There were; 11 hits
off Kolln, four oft Garver. Both
Parsons and Stewart, along with
Gordy Bacon, had two hits. Stew
art had. a triple. s-
The win was Salem's sixth, as
gainst one loss against prep com
petition this season. The game
waa a makeup tilt for a rainout of
April 28. The Sal ems today play
at Albany in a Big Six league
dash, and Jim Rock will be on the
mound for the Haukmen. Silver
ton - recently finished Willamette
Valley league play with 6-1 re
