Young musicians Bands to Play At Auditorium Bands of Salem high school and Willamette university will join talents in a concert to be given Monday night at the Salem high school auditorium. This is the fin al concert to be given by the in strumental music department of the school. Maurice Brennen di rects the Willamette group, and E. Donald Jessop the high school band. The concert will begin at 8 o'clock. One of the highlights of the program will be the Grieg piano concerto in A Minor, played by Ann Gibbens, pianist, and the high school band. Miss Gibbens, one of Salem's outstanding young musi cians, has been heard many times as soloist in the city. She has won many honors, one of which was a trip to New York under tne aus pices of the New York Philhar monic orchestra's Sunday radio program. Wayne Mercer, anotner or oa- lem's accomplished young musi cians, will play a marimba solo during the program. Glenn Ben ner, another student of Salem high school, well known in music circles, will play a trombone solo and Don McMaster, student at Willamette university, will play a clarinet solo. Gates, violinist, will be pre sented by the Willamette univer sity College of Music Wednesday, April 19. at 8:15 in the Waller hall auditorium. Miss Farquharson, whose home was in Buffalo, New York,, is an instructor in piano and theory at Willamette. She received her B.M and M.M. degrees from the Uni versity of Michigan, where she served as an instructor in piano for a year before coming to Willamette. She is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, national music honorary In addition to her piano accomp lishments she excels in violin and viola. Before coming to Willamette as an associate professor of music and instructor of violin, Dr. Gates taught various music subjects at the Livingston State Teachers college, Livingston, Ala., and the University of North Carolina, Cha pel Hill, N.
