LAND PURCHASE DENIED
Marion county court rejected
Friday a request by Richfield Oil
company to purchase a small strip
of county-owned land which forms
right-of-way for a widely curved
northwest corner at Silverton
road and Lancaster drive. County
Judge Grant Murphy said the
land, wanted by the company in
connection with a service station,
would probably be necessary for
future development of the roads.

BABY SUFFERS BURNS
Diane Barger, six months old,
suffered second and third degree
burns Friday morning when she
fell against an electric heater at
her home on the north en4 of
Fisher road. The baby was treat

Friday night in lieu of $50 bail
following his arrest earlier on a
charge of being drunk on a public
highway by state police. Police
reported Hardman was arrested
in his ditched car near Claxtar
road on highway 99E north of

Lammers Wins

A Salem navy reservist who
hasn't missed a drill in 2Vi years
and who has helped the local re
serve division set at least one
district record, Clinton G. Lam
mers, was announced Friday as
the unit's choice for local and 13th
naval district "Reservist of the
Month." 1
Lammers is a radarman first
class who does personnel classifi
cation for the local surface divi
sion 13-28. Its classification rec
ords were the first in the district
to be completed and are lauded
as "in the best shape."
This is the first time a selec
tion has been made by the Salem
division, and Lammers was a
unanimous choice of the officers.
He was commended at Thursday
night's drill by Lt Comdr. Cobum
L. Grabenhorst, commanding of
ficer. His picture and an article
will be in the district's April mag
azine.
Lammers, who resides at 1823
N. Summer st, is a state highway
department employe. Before the
war he was an insurance under
writer in Chicago. He came to
Salem in . 1946, is active in the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and a
Cub Scout pack leader.
One of the volunteer reservists
even before the division was or
ganized here in September, 1947,
Lammers has a 100 per cent, at
tendance record. He has cruised
every year and spends an extra
evening each week in personnel
work. He plans to change his rat
ing to- that, field from radar.

Gilbert Groff and Warren Clark
said Friday they would begin the
survey next week. A five-year
construction program is being pro
posed by Brownsville officials. '
