to George C. Huggins, jr., of Salem, son of Mr. and Mrs.
George C. Huggins" of Coos Bay, has been anonunced. The
wedding is planned for the fall.

clarinet quartet including Loren
Bartlett, Ray Condor, Alice Leh

pet trio including Jim Tod4, Bob

Members were present from the
Mill City and Salem Heights Wom
en's clubs, who assisted in address
ing the Easter sale envelopes for
the Oregon Society; for CrinDled
Children and Adult;.
Mrs. Clay Cochran, Mrs. Ralph
DaMetz, Mrs. Donald Madison,
Mrs. ' Ray Farmer, Mrs. Caroline
Underhill, Mrs. Mina Olmstead,
Miss Antoinette White and Mrs.
Albert Gragg were members of the
hospitality committee for the day.
Mrs. W. O. Widdosys gave a re
port on the Children's Farm Home
at Corvallis and needs of the home.

her visit to the California Feder
ated clubs.
The tea table covered with a
hand painted cloth, was centered
with a crystal bowl filled with daf
fodils and greens and flanked by
candles. Mrs. Henry Hanzen and
Mrs. Frank G. Myers poured. Mrs.
Carl W. Emmons and Mrs. Harry
Wiedmer were co-chairmen of the
tea committee.
Dr. Parker to Be
Guest Speaker
Dr. Paul Parker, present dean
and new president of the George
Fox college at Newberg, will ' be
the speaker at the Salem Christian
Business and Professional Wo
men's dinner meeting Tuesday,
March 14, at 0:15 p. m. at the Gol
den Pheasant. His subject will be
"Effective Christian Living in a
Material - Minded World." -
Other interesting features on the
program will be a talk by Margar
et Leonard on the theme "Fishers
of Men," a unique painting by Vi
ola Henne, and special music by
a girls sextet. Women from all
churches are invited to attend this
meeting.
Prof. and . Mrs. Mortoa Peck,
1552 Court st, will be hosts to the
Salem : Writers club on Wednes
day, March 15, at 7:30 p. m.

Engagement of
Couple Told
.Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Thomp
son of Highland Park, New Jer
sey, are announcing the engage
ment of their daughter, Susanne
DeVoe, to George C. Huggins, jr
Salem, son of Mr. and Mrs. George
C Huggins of Coos Bay.
Miss Thompson Is a graduate
of Duke university, where she was
a member of Delta Delta corority.
She Is now teaching health . and
physical education in the Marsh-
field Junior high school. Coos Bay.
Mr. Huggins is a veteran of the
naval air corps and a graduate of
the University of Oregon, where
he was affiliated with Alpha Tau
Omega fraternity. He is presently
with the Huggins insurance firm
In Salem.
An early fall wedding is plan
ned by the engaged duo.
Chi Omegav alumnae will be en
tertained Tuesday night at the
home of Mrs. Robert Moe, 3460
Center street, with Mrs. George L.
Hill as co-hostess at 8 o'clock. At
the business meeting plans will be
discussed for the spring project of
the group and a late supper will be
served by the hostesses.
Mrs. Karl Beeke will be hostess
to members of the Modern Drama
class at a dessert supper Tuesday
Coeds Plan HaWali Trip
Salem coeds are Interested to
learn that plans are now .underway
for a 1950 tour of the Hawaiian
islands and a summer session at
the University Hawaii. Five Sa
lem coeds made the trip last sum
mer. The tour begins June 28 when
they board a Pan American plane
for the islands and will return the
middle of August on the Matson
liner, Luriine. Mrs. Myra Roach,
Gamma Phi Beta housemother at
the University of Oregon, states
that a limited number of openings
are available.
Auxiliary to Plan Tea
Salem Memorial hospital auxil
iary will meet at the chapel Mon
day afternoon at 1:30 o'clock for
the regular meeting. All auxiliary
members are invited to attend.
Mrs. P. W. Geiser is chairman of
the tea committee and assisting are
Mrs. Adam Hertz, Mrs.. J. P. Hay
ward, Mrs. H. A. Cross and Mrs.
L. F. Heuperman. A board meeting
was held at the home of the presi
dent, Mrs. Edward Goeckner on
Wednesday when preliminary
plans were made for the annual
spring silver tea for which the aux
iliary members will be hostesses on
April 20 at the Orchard HeighU
home of Dr. and Mrs. Willard N.
Thompson.
