BEND. Feb. 24-(Special)-A tre

loose from a 37-57 tie in the last
40 seconds to hand the Viks a 63
59 loss the SHS crew's first of
the league campaign after nine
straight triumphs. The tilt ended
Salem's regular season. They'll
fire in the District II tourney at
Salem next week.
Coach Harold Hauk's lads were
behind all the, way as they took
tneir linn aeieat in Z4 starts
They were down at the first quar
ter stop, 19-10, trailed at the in
termission, 34-25 and were on hte
short end of a 50-37 count at the
end of the third chapter. ,
The feature of the tilt was the
Salems' f o u r t h-quarter surge
which melted away the 13 -point
advantage ine iava xears enjoyea
at the end of the third heat, Dur
ing the next torrid eight minutes
j x al v r
which almost but not cnute won
the ball game for the Viks, Doug
Kogers, Jim Rock, Daryl Girod.
Deb Davis and Larry Walling
played sterling roles. Rock, in the
space of two minutes, tossed in
seven points to provide the main
impetus. With the count 57-51,
Reserve Larry Walling hit a close-
in bucket and Sub Deb Davis hit
true with a 30-foot howitzer to
bring it up to 57-55. Rogers than
sank a pair of gifters to knot at
57-57.
However. Bend Forward Jack
Carroll canned an eight-footer to
put the home club up 59-57 and
Ted Michelson then holed out
brace of charity tosses to give the
Bears all the lead they needed.
Bob Hawes was the hot man for
Bend with 23 points off nine bas
kets and five free. For Salem
Rogers easily took scoring honors
on his 17 markers. He hit five buc
kets and seven straight charity
snots without a miss. Rock collect
