Seaweed Assists
Dentist in Making
Better False Teeth
DALLAS -(INS)-Dr. Morris J.
Thompson, cf Beverly Hills, Calif.,
recently spoke 14 Dallas about the
new process the dental profession
Ij using to develop a teeth im
pression material.
: From certain types of seaweed,
which produce a gelatinous sub-
tance called agar-agar, dentists
lave developed hydrocollold.
Hydrocolloid enables the dentist
to make an exact model of the pa
tient's dental arch, Dr Thompson
explained. - -"i'S-
Hydrocolloid Is placed in the pa
tient's mouth in semi-fluid form,
then chilled into a Jellylike farm
which takes the shape of the teeth
or entire dental arch.,; -From
this mold the dentist mak
es an exact duplicate of the teeth
enabling him v to fit crowns or
bridges, Inlays or partial plates
while the patient tits! in an easy
chair .and not the dentist chair.
"In most cases." Dri Thompson
said, Mthe patient has to make only
two trips to the dental chair first
to get the impression, second, to
get his finished work."
The Beverly Hills dentist said
hydrocolloid so far Is the most
Iirecise dental impression material
ound by the profession.
At first the agar-agar seaweeds
were found only la the Japanese
held Asiatic waters arid could not
be obtained in sufficient quantity
during the war years.!
. Lately they have been found off
the coast of Mexico in the Pacific.

Gals Pay Men
Just to Dance
OSAKA, Japan -(INS)- Ro
mancing is taboo in a unique Jap
anese ballroom where women pay
men to dance with them.
! Male taxi-dancers, employed, in
this establishment, may not dance
more than twice during an eve
ning with any one woman patron
on pain of immediate dismissal,
i The management explains:
I "We set up this rule to prevent
the circulation of unsavory rumors
about our ballroom..
Nice Work
The gigolos, who work for a
basic salary of 5,000 yen ($14) a
month plus commissions, are the
only men allowed to enter the
dance-hall, which caters exclu
sively to women.
It operates for three hours ev
ery evening and has attracted an
average of SO women daily.
enough to keep busy the 31 male
taxi-dancers on hand.
Operators of the establishment
said it was opened to' give women
"equal chances' with men in seek
ing entertainment. They claim this
is in keeping with the spirit of
the new Japanese constitution that
forbids discrimination between the
sexes.
The taxi-dancers were carefully
screened from 700 applicants. The
management describes them as
"well-bred gentlemen working in
various white-collar occupations
during business hours."
Intellectual Spiel
For each dance the woman pat
ron gives her partner a ticket.
which sells for a little over nine
yen, about two cents U.S.
The management said the taxi-
dancers must have a well-round
ed education that enables them to
carry on an "intelligent conversa
tion" with their woman patrons
on the dance floor.

CHICAGO, Feb. 16 -UPh Mos
grains leaned a little lower at the
end of a listless trading session on
the board of trade today.
New crop wheat deliveries had
the widest losses, which reversed
yesterday's market, when these

There was no specific news to
create selling in new crop wheat
deliveries. These contracts ap
parently merely encountered a
technical reaction after yesterday's
spurt. :
A Kansas City trade publication
noted that Gulf of Mexico ports
were glutted with wheat. It said
the Commodity Credit corporation
had discontinued Its exchanges of
milling wheat stocks it holds in the
Kansas City area for wheat de
livered at Gulf of Mexico ports.
This may have been one reason
for the comparative steadiness of
the March contracts, as the publi
cation said, "suspension of the
exchanges will close an important
source of milling wheat supplies'
