Market Dips;
Wheat Steady
CHICAGO, Sept aO--Tb
grain market was nervous today
and considerable liquidation de
veloped during the board of
trade session. Although the Sep
tember wheat contract managed to
' finish even " with yesterday's
close, other contracts had a dif
ficult time.
Short covering brought the
September contract fractionally
above the previous finish, but
other grains with soybeans and
lard were dragged lower under
the Impact of foreign monetary
devaluation and the threat of ser
ious labor troubles.
At -the close wheat was un
changed to 2tt lower, corn was
higher to lower, oats were
H to 1 lower and lard was off
12 to 42 cents a hundredweight
After' a weak start there was a
fairly strong rally, but the buy
ing was not sustained, except in
the nearby contracts of wheat and
corn.

Mrs. Katherine Toman
SCIO Mrs. Katherine Toman,
8Q, wife of Joe Toman, died at
the family home 11 miles south
east of Scio, Sunday afternoon,
after a stroke the previous day.
Funeral services will be at
Weddle Tuneral home in Stayton
Thursday at 2 pjn., with Rev.
V. L. Loucks of Scio Baptist
church In charge. Burial will be
in Bllyeu Den cemetery east of
Scio.
Born Feb. 9, 1889 in Czecho
slovakia, she came to the U. S.
In 1922, residing in Wisconsin and
Illinois until her marriage. Jan. t,
1024 in Chicago to Joe Toman of
Scio. The Tomans resided in Mill
City until 1828 when they bought
a farm near Scio.
Surviving are the widower and
one : daughter, Irene, who since
herl graduation from Scio high
school in 1948 has been employed
In Salem. -
Mrs. Toman was a member of
ZCBJ lodge of Mill City.
