Town Club Dates Set
Announcements were received
this week by Town club members
telling dance dates fcir the coming
season. Formal dances will again
be held at the Marion hotel with a
snack bar a feature of the evening.
Saturday, October 22 is the date
for the first dance; and others are
on December 10, February 18 and

Miss Elise Schroeder, president of the Salem branch, American
Association of University Women. This is the first in a series of pic
tures and articles of presidents of the larger women's organizations in
the city to be featured each Sunday in the women's section during the
winter. r f '
Miss Schroeder; will preside at the first meeting of the branch on
September 24 at the Marion hoteL The branch holds monthly lunch
eon meetings the third Saturdayduring the winter, with two evening
meetings also scheduled," The branch was organized here in 1922 and
now has a membership pf 240 college women, Purpose of the organ
ization is to unite college women of the Salem area for practical edu
cational work and the 'maintenance of high standards of education
and to cooperate with the. national association of AAUW in its general
work. The branch contributes annually to scholarship and fellowship
funds and last year founded the Beryl Holt fellowship award. Study
groups play an important part in the organization, winch are open
to non-college women and to all interested persons in the community,

was of blush pink satin fashioned
with a full gathered skirt termin
ating in a long train, fitted bodice
with sweetheart neckline and long
sleeves. Two clusters of stephan
otis held in her place her finger
tip length veil which was edged in
lace. She carried a white Bible
marked, with a lavender orchid
and streamers of stephanotis.
Mrs. Douglas Armstrong was the
matron of honor and wore a white
marquisette frock over a pale
green satin slip fashioned with a
shawl .collar and short sleeves.
Miss Ruth Skinner, the bridesmaid,
wore a similar dress, only of pale
green marquisette over green sat
in. They carried cascade crescent
shape bouquets of ivory gladiolus
es tied with yellow net and ribbon.
Miss Lee Steinbeck and Miss De
lores Bauer of Portland, in pale
green satin dresses, lighted the ta

Plans are now underway for the
annual campaign tp. be conducted
by the women's division of the Sa
lem Community Chest in which
several hundred women will take
part Serving as chairmen of the
women's division this year are
Mrs. Robert W. Wilson, Jr, Mrs.
George Spain and Mrs. Elmer
Church. The drive actually gets
underway October 4 and officially
ends on the 14th.
Leaders have already been se
lected by the chairmen and they
in turn win choose their captains.
On Wednesday the three chairmen
have Invited their leaders to a one
o'clock luncheon at the Court street
home of Mrs. Conrad Paulson, who
was last year's chairman. Follow
